Discover the graffiti route through Valencia

Valencia Guide
If you are in Valencia and have already eaten enough paellas and walked through the center a thousand times, you are likely thinking: "What do I do now?" Don't worry, because the city has a more rebellious, colorful, and photogenic side that is waiting for you.

Forget the typical tour and discover something different, where the walls speak (literally) and art isn't hung in galleries, but surprises you at every corner. There are no boring exhibitions here, nor signs that say "Do not touch." Valencia is a giant open-air canvas where every piece of graffiti has a story to tell. And best of all: it is constantly changing. What is an impressive portrait of Frida Kahlo today, becomes a psychedelic alien tomorrow (because urban art is like that, unpredictable and brilliant). For example, the El Carmen neighborhood is like a theme park for street art lovers. Ruzafa, for its part, mixes art with a more hipster vibe, where every place looks like it was taken from a fashion editorial.

And if you think that's all… There are authentic hidden gems waiting to be discovered. So grab your phone (because you're going to want to take lots of photos), put on some comfortable sneakers, and get ready for a walk where every corner is a burst of creativity.

Guide to enjoying Valencia's graffiti

If Valencia were a party, each neighborhood would have its own role: Ruzafa would be the party soul, El Carmen, the bohemian with stories to tell, and El Cabanyal, that relaxed friend who always has a plan by the sea.

As you can see, the best (and worst) thing about urban art is that it is in constant transformation, which is why every walk is unique and unrepeatable.

We, in our attempt to show you everything, opted to create a route that mixes epic murals with the city's classic corners. Will there be things left to see? Surely. Is it worth doing? Without a doubt, yes.

Plaça del Tossal

Here we are not talking about framed paintings or sculptures with explanatory plaques, but pure street art with history. Therefore, let's start with the crown jewel: Stop War Victim’s Wall by Fasim. This work is not just a mural; it is a cry against war and a jolt to the conscience in the middle of the square. If you look closely, you will see how Fasim's style mixes the abstract with the figurative, leaving you with the feeling that you are facing a work that says more than it seems at first glance.

But it doesn't end there. Look up and discover the madness: a car falling from the roof of a building. No, it's not a live accident; it is one of the most iconic works by Escif, the Valencian Banksy. This artist, known for his minimalist style and powerful messages, has left his mark on cities all over the world.

And as the icing on the cake, we have Blu, another heavyweight of international graffiti. His work in the square represents Moses with a beard made of snakes. What does it mean? Well, everyone draws their own conclusions here, but political and social criticism is a constant in his work.

Carrer de Dalt and Carrer Sant Dionís

If you are one of those who walk while looking at your phone, you are going to miss epic things on this route. So, eyes wide open, because as soon as you step onto Carrer de Dalt, you are greeted by a scene that looks like something out of a psychedelic delusion: a burning cat. Yes, yes, you read that right. It's not a mistake or an exaggeration, it's a feline beast wrapped in flames and it's three stories tall. The work of Xelon XLF, this mural is a symbol of street art in Valencia and a reminder that the streets here are anything but boring.

Now, keep walking and as soon as you turn onto Carrer Sant Dionís, you will run into a piece that looks like it came from the latest installment of Mad Max: a futuristic mummy signed by the Valencian Deih. His style is unmistakable, with otherworldly characters, electric colors, and a vibe that mixes comics, science fiction, and a touch of existentialism.

But wait, the best is yet to come. A horse pulled by snails. Yes, another surreal scene courtesy of the Italian artist Ericailcane, famous for his murals that look like illustrations from strange fairy tales. Here, his narrative touch and vintage aesthetic create an image that, the more you look at it, the more it grabs you.

Carrer de Na Jordana

It's like walking down a street full of murals that look like they were taken straight out of a science fiction movie. The artist Deih has left his mark on several murals in the area, with his fascinating pieces that combine the futuristic with a very personal touch. And if that wasn't enough, you'll come across a work that will make you stop for a moment and smile: the portrait of a girl with a mug, the work of Xolaka. Here, realism takes over the walls, creating an atmosphere that is, on one hand, cozy and, on the other, deeply intriguing.

But Carrer de Na Jordana is not just for urban art fanatics. Along the street, you will find small shops, cafes, and bars with a relaxed atmosphere, ideal for taking a break and chatting with friends.

Calle Moret

It all started in 2014, when photographer Alfonso Calza, a man with a vision for the future, saw the street slowly deteriorating. Instead of sitting idly by, he decided to transform this space into something special. How did he do it? Instead of hanging a tarp with his photos (which would have been the easy way), he called artist Zíngaro and together they began to give the place a new life. That is how the now-known Street of Colors was born, a corner full of art, where Calza's photos are transformed into murals.

The best part? One of the most impressive graffiti pieces on this street is 60 meters long and is a collaboration between several artists. Among them, you will find the iconic work of Luis Lonjedo, who immortalized the famous kiss of Valencia.

Did you know that this kiss is not just a work of art? It is a love story in the form of graffiti. Lonjedo was inspired by a "stolen" photo of a couple kissing at London Bridge station in 2012, and transformed it into his masterpiece within this very special project, called "Prohibited not to kiss."

But that's not all. If you like realistic styles, you will also find Deih with his impressive work "Bridge in Venice," a mural that reflects the perfect mix of technique and emotion. It is one of those works that makes you think, "how did he do it?".

Carrer del Pintor Fillol

This is the place where Julieta XLF, one of the most talented artists in the graffiti scene, left her mark with one of her most iconic works. Have you seen it? Imagine a little girl, with hair blowing in the wind (and it changes color in every mural, as if she were an art chameleon). This figure has become Julieta's signature.

In fact, it has a Japanese touch that transports you to another world. If you haven't passed by here yet, you are missing a piece of the city's magic.

Carrer de Baix and the Carrer de l’Hostal de Morella

In this little piece of the city, urban art chases you at every corner. Mind you, don't be mistaken, we are not talking about large colorful murals or conceptual art works. Rather, this is a place where the walls speak with a casual style.

What catches your attention, and what will make you smile, is that some quite peculiar characters are waiting for you here.

Ninjas? Thieves? Honestly, we're not sure, but what we do know is that they are a figure that appears on more than one wall in the area. These friendly characters, with their black suits in the purest "mysterious" style, are part of the works of artist David de Limón.

The funny thing about these creations is that they seem to always be watching from the shadows, as if they were waiting to surprise you.

But don't let their air of "mystery" fool you, because deep down, these graffiti pieces have something very special: they are an invitation to see the city with different eyes.

Carrer del Portal de Valldigna in the Frígola alley

Here, a surprising work of art awaits you: a fish-girl who, if you are a fan of Julieta XLF or the ninja-thieves, will surely remind you of those characters so full of mystery and strength. This sea girl is not just a pretty drawing, but reflects that urban world that coexists between the modern and the traditional of Valencia. And don't forget that you are right next to the historic Silk Exchange (Lonja de la Seda).

Now, don't just observe this painting. Think about the context: this type of graffiti is not just street art, but a form of expression that connects with people, especially those looking for something beyond the conventional.

Remember, urban art has something special: it's not just for looking at, it's for feeling.

But wait, it doesn't end there. If we talk about graffiti in Valencia, the Carmen neighborhood is the undisputed king, the epicenter of urban art, the mecca of spray paint. But, look, it's not the only corner where the walls come to life. In the heart of the center, the Mercat and Velluters neighborhoods also have their own, with murals that appear where you least expect them. But if you really want to play explorer of graffiti, it's time to head beyond the ancient city walls. In Ruzafa, graffiti coexists with modern cafes and a hipster vibe that gives it an incredible feel. And if you continue to El Cabanyal, you will find urban art with a taste of the sea, among colorful houses and the aroma of the Mediterranean breeze. So now you know, if you have time (and the desire to be amazed by street talent), get ready for an urban safari where the walls will speak to you in full color.
